The magic of wild camping
Wild camping has a certain magic. And it truly is. Waking up in the most fantastic places without a single other (human) soul around.
But don't know how or where to start? Then we have the perfect solution for you (and your family).
Practice and learn all the tips and tricks in a safe environment so you can continue your journey with confidence and knowledge. Be sure to read on!
I've never been to a campsite in Scandinavia, even though I've been traveling there for over 10 years, usually with my daughter Ronja. That is, until I found my spot, "Högda.".
Even outside Scandinavia we haven't camped anywhere without problems. As long as you stick to the basic principle of "leave no trace", you can still camp wild in many countries with the approval of the local authorities and population, even in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Wild camping is certainly possible in your backyard, the playground in front of your house, or anywhere else. But can you resist the temptation to pop in for a quick toilet break or put the kettle on for a cup of tea or coffee?
Certainly not, not me, but I haven't lived like this for years. So how do you do it? We'll teach you, and before you know it, you won't want it any other way, at least not for a while. Away from all the luxury of flipping a switch for this or that.
It doesn't matter if you want to wild camp with your camper, small tent, or large tent. We'll guide you through all the facets of wild camping! And the best part is, you can try everything out in an environment where you're completely away from it all and still have a backup.
What do you need to think about because it starts immediately…
- there is no running water
- there is no electricity
- there is no toilet
Don't we have clean water then? I can hear you thinking. Of course not, clean water is so common that it's everywhere, but when you go wild camping, there's no tap, no electrical outlet, no toilet. Is that a problem? Of course not, because that's exactly what we're going to learn!
What will you learn?
- Most importantly, how do you find a place? What resources do you use?
- What's allowed and what's not when camping in the wild? What should you keep in mind once you've found a spot?
- Safe handling of knives and saws
- How to make a fire safely, to sit warm, to cook on, which wood to use and especially which wood not to use
- How to make safe drinking water from that beautiful lake you are standing by
- I need to go to the toilet, what now?
- Can you just fish anywhere?
- What should I take with me and what will you never use and might as well leave at home?
- What things are useful to have as a backup when it just rains?
